How a far infrared Sauna Works

Far Infrared Rays - Part of the Infrared Spectrum

Our sun produces most of its energy output in the infrared spectrum.

Infrared is the band of light we perceive as heat. We cannot see this band of light with the naked eye, but we can feel this type of light in the form of heat.

Infrared rays heat your body, without having to heat the air in-between, through a process called conversion.

The infrared spectrum is divided into 3 segments by wavelengths and is measured in microns.

* Near infrared rays are approximately 0.76 to 1.5 microns;
* Middle infrared rays are approximately 1.5 to 5.6 microns;
* Far infrared rays are approximately 5.6 to 1000 microns.

What is the theory behind these saunas?

Far infrared explained

  • Far infrared sauna therapy is said to duplicate the healthy frequencies of our own cells. The tissues are purported to selectively absorb these rays as the water in the cell reacts in a process called “resonant absorption”.

  • This resonant absorption is said to occur when the frequency of the far infrared matches the frequency of the water in the cell. This causes toxins from the cells to be put out into the blood stream and excreted in sweat, feces, and urine.

  • Proponents of this therapy state that our tissues which are undergoing the healing process may need a boost of infrared to ensure the fullest healing response.

  • Far infrared is claimed to penetrate the body’s tissues to a depth of 40mm.

  • Due to the deep penetration of infrared rays, a heating effect is observed deep in the muscular tissues and even into the internal organs.

  • This “deep heating,” along with sweating, is thought to be responsible for the healing effects and the other health benefits associated with these infrared rays.

  • The sauna has been used and enjoyed for hundreds of years. We usually see small rooms with wood paneling off to one side of most public pools. People in swimsuits or towels relax inside for as long as they can endure the heat. Though most of us know what saunas are, many are surprised to learn that there are both traditional old school saunas and the newer school of far infrared sauna.

  • Conventional saunas are outfitted with a small furnace filled with rocks or coals. The furnace heats the coals, the coals heat the air, and the air heats the people inside the sauna. That is to say that in a conventional sauna, we are heated by means of convection. Its the air that warms us up.

In infrared saunas it is infrared radiation that warms us, not the air. This is the same type of radiation produced by the sun, which you'll notice also warms you. When a cloud covers the sun you feel chilly, but not because the air temperature drops. You've just been blocked from the infrared radiation.

Since they don't rely on such a roundabout method to warm us up, infrared saunas are very energy-efficient. Installing an infrared sauna in your home for personal use will save you a lot of money over the long run. Hot air only touches us skin-deep, but heat from infrared radiation goes deeper into our skin and produces more lasting benefits.

The number one concern most people have about these types of saunas is safety. The phrase infrared radiation sounds scary and a little like something used in a dangerous military experiment. However, infrared radiation is 100% safe. Its the same way the sun heats the earth, and we are exposed to its rays every single day.

Furthermore, the infrared used in saunas is even safer than exposure to the sun because it doesn't involve ultraviolet rays. Everybody knows about the importance of wearing sunscreen because of UV's damaging effects. But no need to worry about that in a infrared sauna. They are completely UV-free.

Using an infrared sauna is a smart move for the health-conscious. Inducing regular perspiration in a sauna is a healthy and natural way to cleanse yourself of impurities and toxins in your body. It clears away the unhealthy stuff we've all got built up on the inside so that our bodies take care of themselves the way nature intended.

Now you know the fundamental differences between an infrared sauna and a conventional sauna. The advantages of an infrared sauna are not far from you, so what are you waiting for? Act now and see the amazing health benefits of a far infrared sauna for yourself.
